Biography:
Kathleen has chosen to use the medium of quilt making to express
her art.
Sewing has been a passion for her, since learning at the age of 7.
In her youth, her focus was on creating clothing for herself. This
focus continued into her adult life outfitting herself for work and
leisure apparel.
After her sons were born, she discovered that clothing for boys was
predominantly gray, blue, and the occasional drab green. She felt
that they should be able to dress more colorfully, and made many
outfits for them. This included complete character outfits for
Halloween costumes, as well as coordinated outfits for family
portraits.
When she joined a co-worker at a quilt making class, she began with
traditional quilting blocks. While working on her first sampler
quilt, she received an offer of purchase before it was even
completed. (No, she didn't
sell it; it is pictured to the right.) Over the
years, she continued to make quilts as gifts for family members. In
recent years, she has been inspired to expand into original designs.
She has a mix of new design and traditional quilt blocks contained
within them.
Many people see that the quilts have a 3D effect. While

enjoys seeing the colors of each piece come
together. However, she knows there is nothing like the feel of
placing the pieced quilt top upon the cotton batting, and muslin
backing. Beginning the quilting part of the process assures her that
this work is almost to completion. It is such a thrill for her to
experience the finished product.
Artist’s Statement
“I began my artwork quilt services with the
divine inspiration to fulfill my desire to do more than pray for an
infant in our parish community. She had not been given a good
prognosis. I knew of the Angelic Gateway given to Joseph Crane by
the angelic realm, based on sacred geometry.
During a training class at work, I had
thoughts of laying fabric on the floor with this sacred geometry
marked out on it. Then, as I copied a bracket the way that the
instructor drew it on the board, I continued to draw upwards to
complete what became the outline of an angel’s wing. As I continued
to sketch, the rest of the angel appeared on the paper in front of
me. From there, I figured out the dimensions, and made the first
quilt incorporating this sacred geometry. It was a hand-painted
angel on a white background with the color formation of hearts
surrounding her.
I have since been inspired to make colorful,
pieced quilt tops, with sacred geometry while incorporating
standard quilt blocks. The newest quilt design in the Activation
motif incorporates a design by my son, Bradley. I look forward to
the feedback about this design. So far, we are aware that it
touches something deep within our core.
I also have a new design for a wall hanging
that I will be making in the near future.”
